How did I survive Thanksgiving?

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day without incident. Mine actually went fairly well. The day began pool side drinking coffee. (Like many of us I have meds to take in the morning before I can even venture into breakfast. Being on vacation breakfast had a late start and consisted of eating a piece of Udi’s bread toasted with Horizon’s Organic Cream Cheese with Lactaid pill of course (see below for coupons link), cantaloupe and blueberries.

Mid-day consisted of a nice walk on South Beach Pavilion a public beach in Boca Raton. It was rather windy so there were a few kite surfers. It was amazing how high they can go in the air. The walk was nice because even though it was windy it was a very warm wind and the water was comfortably warm. The surf was quite rough so it was not a swimming day for me.  But that was o.k. walking in the sand was like a spa date with the ocean consisting of a pedi massage with the sand. My feet felt marvelous. LOL

After we went home for a late lunch, which I was promptly scolded because Hors d'oeuvres would be served in less than an hour followed by Thanksgiving dinner. So I practiced what I preached in one of my previous blogs of surviving Thanksgiving and other social engagements and had my so called “snack”…. a rather large Hormel Natural Choice Ham and Jarlsberg Cheese sandwich on my Udi’s bread with Hellman’s mayo. It came with a side of Plain Cape Cod chips.

On to the Thanksgiving party…..the Hors d’oeuvres were in place as well as the well-stocked bar. Time to be social. I opted out on the Hors d’oeuvres of crescent wrapped cocktail weenies and the little quiches. I also did not indulge in the cheese and crackers but quite honestly I could have had the hard cheese selections. The drinks were easy. If you like beer select a gluten free beer if it is an option. This party had Absolute vodka which is my go to a social event. I normally drink mine with a flavored seltzer water or plain seltzer or tonic sometimes with a splash of a FODMAP friendly juice.  Or just drink seltzer water with a slice of lime. Now you can mingle. J Pretty good so far, huh?

Dinner consisted of typical traditional foods. My plate had turkey from an all-natural turkey (beware some natural turkeys have an added solution. Sodium phosphate is considered natural) mashed potato, green beans (not the casserole) and a homemade cranberry jello mold. There was an awesome looking yam casserole that I could have had but I had the chance of reading the yam can before the dinner so I know what ingredients were in the casserole. Lots of sugars I cannot have.

Everyone stuffed themselves, except me because see I had that nice tasty sandwich before I went. The desserts were awesome but being a good person (of course they did not have pumpkin pie that I wanted to cheat on anyways) I chose the fruit bowl and selected a few pieces for fruit that I can have. Grapes and cantaloupe melon.  All in all it was an awesome day.

As far as how I feel today. I couldn’t feel better and glad I did not cheat. Now I am ready for some more pool side and think we might go hit a bucket of balls.

Feeling thankful I have this energy. J
